As you probably have heard in the news the boomer and senior population is growing rapidly in the U.S. I’ve been serving this demographic and other home bound individuals through my mobile dentistry practice for over 10 years in Nashville, Tennessee area.

I designed a business plan for treating elderly and patients in their homes, assisted living centers and long term care (LTC) facilities. On-Site Dental Services offered “Gentle Dental” services directly to elderly and other incapacitated patients in the comfort of their home, assisted living, skilled nursing home or retirement community.
Why is this significant for portable dentistry?
The senior demographic is often not diligent about maintaining their dental health due to inability to travel to their dentist for their care. Also good dental health has come to be viewed as an indication of the overall quality of care that a nursing home resident is receiving. Basically senior care housing locations are having to oversee dental health of their residents and arrange for these patients to get the dental procedures they need. Going to their location and providing services is often less stress on these seniors.
Our Goals in our Portable Dental Practice ...
With our Portable Dental Practice we were able to provide a wide range of dental treatments at locations outside the traditional office setting. Procedures included restoring and maintaining the health of teeth and gums along with dental cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, bridgework, partials, extractions, repairs, relines and dentures. Charges for these services were based on a range of fees depending on the specific treatment required and time and materials. Generally, we provided an exam/consultation appointment to meet the patient and determine the appropriate treatment plan. At that appointment we would address any questions and concerns and provide an estimate of the charges so financial arrangements can be made.
Why I am leaving Portable Dental Practice ...
At this time I am discontinuing this service so that I can spend more time and energy preparing for my son to join me in my traditional dental office practice. I think that the business plan, procedures and equipment that I have assembled over 10 years offer another dentist a quick start into the 'Portable Dental Practice' business niche along with taping the growing boomer and senior demographic.
